Killer Candy Sensation
The connoisseur sensation of the year has been a chocolate candy bar. Of course it has to be a very special candy bar…one that would make Willy Wonka jealous. “FIX” candy bars which stands for “freaking incredible experience” are currently only available in Dubai. These “FIX” chocolate bars are made from Kuwaiti chocolate surrounding bars of pistachios and knafeh (or kunafa), a crispy shredded phyllo pastry. The bars retail for about $25 each and come in a plastic container. I was taken aback by the price, but the bar is pretty comparable to three Hershey’s bars stacked on top of each other. Getting your hands on one depends on availability. So if you’re on a quest for this chocolatey treasure, you might want to call or text ahead to check availability. One food critic wrote: “I broke it in half with my hands and was struck by its beauty — the pistachio-knafeh contrasts beautifully with the milk chocolate bar. I snapped a few photos to brag to my friends, and then went right in. The verdict? It’s amazing. The chocolate is sweet and smooth, but the real star is that pistachio-knafeh filling that is crispy, nutty, and decadent. It’s so creamy yet crunchy, and after one bite I totally understood how it went viral in the first place.” Sarah Hamouda, founder of Fix says, “We take a lot of time and effort, and put a lot of love into our bars,” says. It’s not just a chocolate bar, she says: We want to create an experience. To be honest, not at any point did I think this was going to become global.”
As the bars are handmade — including colorful designs painted on each one — there’s a limit to how much the team can produce. “For me, it’s really important (to maintain) the quality and the ingredients of our products,” she says, adding that the secret to her bars is the signature mold she uses to shape the chocolate and pack in the filling. Part of the appeal of Fix’s bars is the creative names, which Hamouda’s husband comes up with, and the uniquely Middle Eastern flavors, like dates, karak (a spiced tea blend), and knafeh, a traditional Arabic dessert made with shredded pastry, pistachios, sweet soft cheese, and syrup. Fan’s desperation to try the unusual flavors and textures has led to a “chocolate black market” with the bars showing up in South Africa at exorbitant prices.
It was not a sweet ending for a woman who travelled to Germany. A woman was stopped by the German customs officials at the Hamburg Airport in December 2024, as they found she was carrying 240 bars of the Dubai chocolate. FIX went viral on social media is sold for $27 each, in Germany. According to Reuters News the woman had not declared a total of 460 bars, weighing 200g each, which were distributed among three suitcases. The officials stated the bars had to be re-exported or destroyed. Additionally, the bars were considered a potential health risk, as the packaging did not include information about the ingredients or allergens present in the chocolate.
Mmm, Mmm, Gooder
They just discovered an Egyptian tomb filled with chocolate and hazelnut.
They believe it is the tomb of Pharaoh Rocher.
My uncle just came up with: “What are chocolate’s preferred pronouns?”
“Her, She.”
I just got over my addiction to chocolate, marshmallows and nuts.
If I’m honest, it was a Rocky Road.
I saw my son eating chocolate even after I confiscated all his Halloween candy. I asked him where he got that from.
He said, “I always have a few Twix up my sleeve.”
