Oh, those lottery mistakes…

According to Fox Business, Kelly Lindsay from Carrollton, Virginia had requested a specific scratch-off ticket at a local store. However, the cashier accidentally handed her a Money Blitz scratch-off instead. Initially frustrated by the mix-up, Kelly decided to scratch the ticket in the local gas station parking lot only to discover she had just won the top prize of $2 million. Her frustration quickly turned to disbelief and joy. Laughing about the incident later, she admitted, “And I got over not being happy about it.” Lindsay had two options: receive the full amount over 30 years in annual instalments or take a lump sum payment. Opting for a lump sum, she took home $1,250,000 after taxes.

The odds of winning the $2 million prize in the Money Blitz game were just 1 in 1,142,400. Remarkably, the game features two top prizes, meaning one more lucky winner is yet to be revealed. The overall odds of winning any prize in this scratch-off game stand at 1 in 3.29. The winning ticket was purchased by Kelly Lindsay at the Race Way Carrollton gas station on Carrollton Boulevard. Not only does Kelly Lindsay’s victory change her life, but it also benefits the neighborhood. She resides in Isle of Wight County, which this year earned more than $3.7 million (£2.9 million) in state lottery funds for education from kindergarten to the 12th grade. Later on, Kelly Lindsay was spotted grinning with happiness while holding an enormous check for her winnings and a picture of the scratch-off ticket. Her experience serves as a reminder that sometimes the most surprising outcomes arise from seemingly bad circumstances.

Meanwhile in France

“Jean-David E” discovered earlier this month that his backpack had been stolen from his car in the southern city of Toulouse, France. In the pack were his ID, bank cards and other documents, Jean’s lawyer said.  Jean-David asked his bank to block the card and learned it had already been used in a local shop. At the shop, a vendor told him two apparently homeless men had used one of his credit cards to buy the winning scratch-off lottery ticket. “They were so totally happy that they forgot their cigarettes and their belongings and walked out like crazy people.”

But the thieves vanished before cashing the winning ticket in and now they’re among France’s most famous fugitives. As of Saturday, the state lottery operator La Française des Jeux, or FDJ, said that no one had submitted the ticket to cash out. ″It’s an incredible story, but it’s all true,″ Jean-David’s lawyer, Pierre Debuisson, told The Associated Press. Jean-David filed a police complaint about the theft, but is ready to withdraw it if the thieves come forward so that they can share the money, Debuisson said. ″Without them, no one would have won,″ Jean-David said on public broadcaster France-2.  Jean-David E., is offering to split the cash with the lucky winners. He wants his wallet back, too. The thieves, meanwhile, face the risk of arrest. The lawyer launched a national appeal Thursday asking the perpetrators to contact his office to make a deal.  “You risk nothing … we will share with you,” he said. “And you would be able to change your lives.” The ticket will eventually expire, he warned. “Time is working against us,” he said.

Accidental wealth

At breakfast, a man asked his wife “What would you do I if won the lottery?” She replied, “I’d take half, and then leave you.”
“Great,” he said “I won $12 yesterday. Here’s $6. Stay in touch.”

A lottery ticket is a weird gift to give someone it’s like:
“Here. This has a 99% chance of being disappointing. I saw it and thought of you.”

God finally answer my prayers about winning the $15 million lottery.
The answer was no.

If I ever win the lottery, I’m going to share it with everyone.
Not the money, just going to let you know that I’ve won.

If you find $100 to be too expensive for Ancestry DNA kits, I have a cheap alternative…
Announce that you won the lottery and you’ll quickly find relatives you never knew you had!
