Truckers throwing money around

It was a normal day in Oak Park when the folks on the street dropped what they were doing and ran into the street. They gathered around three big leather and canvas bags that were just lying there, but spiling cash unto the pavement. Witnesses said crowds rushed to the Chicago-area street after bags of cash, containing about $300,000 fell out of a Brink’s armored truck. Dozens of people were spotted “removing money from the scene and fleeing the area” by foot and in vehicles, according to the Oak Park Police Department. The bags just fell out of the truck when for reasons yet unexplained that a truck back door fell open as the truck when through the downtown Oak Park. Meanwhile somewhere down the road the banging door alerted the truck driver who closed the door an circled back to see what had fallen out. No arrests have been made. Police continue their investigation of the “theft of lost or mislaid property,” and are appealing to anyone who collected the money to return it voluntarily./i

Meanwhile in the Dallas suburb of Alford a tractor trailer was traveling on the freeway and for some reason mis judged a curve in the road, the truck its driver swerved to get back off the berm and the load shifted flipping trailer and the tractor sideways on the road. Fortunately neither occupant was seriously injured. What made this accident more exciting was that the railer broke open and spilled it load of newly minted dimes: 8 million dimes.  The dimes were scattered throughout the roadway and the grass beside it, according to the Texas DPS.

The driver and a passenger were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Authorities said both were in stable condition. A Wise County resident described witnessing the early morning event, “I saw a truck flipped over, I was like, ‘What’s going on?'” Vasquez said. “I almost came out here with a bucket so I can fill it up with some dimes.” Crews were spotted using shovels, vacuum cleaners and even their hands to pick up the dimes. Street sweeper vehicles arrived to help, and so did employees from the United States Armored Company — a division of  Western Distributing, trained to transport government cargo. The highway was shut down for nearly 14 hours as crews as crews collected dimes, dirt, rocks and grass to be sorted out  elsewhere.
