Listen, a bear necessity
Listen, a bear necessity
A woman hiking on a remote section of the Appalachian Trail fell behind her group and was hurrying to catch up. She was moving right along listening to her tunes on her headphones from nowhere a bear sprang out of the woods, dashed across the trail, ran her over and continued across the trail into the woods on the other side. The unidentified woman had no advance warning of the approaching bear. She was hiking with in the eastern section of the park near Camel Gap in the Great Smokey Mountains. It’s not unusual for bears to cross the trails while people are hiking, but it is unusual for a collision to occur, adding that normally people hear a bear’s approach and have time to react before the crossing. The lesson is clear: don’t wear headphones or ear buds while hiking.
Reef knot, Sheepshank, Clove Hitch, Bowline. I don’t know how to tie these knots.
But my darn headphones do.
I got new headphones for my birthday That was music to my ears
My dad couldn’t quite grasp the concept of noise-cancelling headphones
Me: “You put them on and you can’t hear anything.”
Him: “Well, then what’s the point?”
Many joggers today are wearing iPod earbuds which is great and keeps the sun light from shining all the way through.
