Dog, man and phone to the rescue
A California primitive camper went to the Tahoe National Forest for an outing. Unfortunately, on one of his hikes he stepped off the edge of a 70 foot drop. By the time he bounced to the bottom he had broken his hip and several ribs. He was prepared for the outdoors through and was able to pull a cell phone from his back pack and in spite of all his pain he tried to call 911. He could not get a signal. Saul his faithful border collie had followed him down the hill and waited for him to move again. He decided he had to move away from the cliff face in order to get a cell signal, so he crawled dragging his pack and followed by Saul. The man was able to find cell service the next day at noon and spoke to first responders on the phone about his condition. However, the call dropped, and the next day, a search and rescue team of 25 volunteers set out to find him, using his last pinged GPS location.
This sounds more or less normal except when the crew got to the side of the road, they could not find him. First responders were able to contact a friend who pointed them to his campsite. After searching through the forest, rescuers found him seven hours later, thanks to the help of his dog. “Some searchers thought they heard a voice, but they couldn’t figure out where it was coming from,” Sgt. Dennis Haack told the outlet. That is when Saul came to the rescue. They spotted Saul running towards them and the little border collie began jumping up and down and spinning around in circles before running in the direction of his owner, Haack said. The rescue team followed Saul for about 200 yards directly to his injured man. He was laying on the ground under a camo tarp from his backpack. The rescuers carried the 53-year-old man on a stretcher about a half mile to a landing zone where a helicopter airlifted him to a hospital for medical treatment. Nevada County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue credited Saul for saving the day. “The true credit goes to the subject’s Border Collie that ran through the forest approximately 200 yards and in true ‘LASSIE’ fashion to flag down two searchers,” Sheriff’s Search & Rescue unit said.
Lassie jokes
I’ve been moving so often…
Not even Lassie knows where to come back home.
“I’m asking Lassie where Timmy is, and he keeps saying Woof!”
“Don’t worry. I’m sure he means well.”
I was clinging for dear life on the edge of the cliff…
As the rescue team approached, one of the guys shouted, “Whatever you do, don’t look
down!” So I started smiling…
Did you know that Lassie on TV was actually a boy?
••••then why did they dress him up like a dog?!
