Surprise, surprise!
Ken Mauldin had a rude awaking early Saturday morning when a roughly 400-pound bear flipped the lever doorknob to his home and came in and started rummaging around. After the lights were turned on after it was all over, the family saw the bear had started on the dog food and then surveyed the kitchen generally. In the process the bear made enough noise to wake up both Ken and his wife. Kelly Mauldin was originally awakened after the family’s dogs began barking. “When I got out of bed, Kelly started screaming, ‘There’s a bear in the house,” She was standing at the couple’s bedroom door with the male black bear about ten feet away from her before her husband took her place. Ken had retrieved his pistol and waited to see what the animal would do.
The massive creature came within five feet of the father of three when he fired his first shot and the bear kept coming and Ken kept shooting. He emptied the magazine. “The bear backed up and changed direction, busting through our banister railing and landing on the stairs, and then it slid down and wound up in a pile at the bottom of the stairs.” It was still alive, but it was no longer attacking. Officers removed the animal from the house, located in the ski-resort town of Steamboat Springs. Colorado has roughly 12,000 bears and break-ins are common in Rocky Mountain towns. The couple had a legal right to shoot the bear if they felt threatened, police said. People shooting and killing bears in self-defense, however, is rare. This particular male bear was not tagged and the department does not know if it was involved in other break-ins, police commented. “Steamboat has been dealing with bears getting into homes all summer long. “It’s possible that this bear learned the behavior from another bear,” officials surmised. Mauldin said the incident hopefully sparks great awareness about the threat bears can pose in the area. “My only thought was protecting my family and putting that bear down,” said Mauldin.
Surprise Visitor jokes
I had a visitor one night… he explored my body… licked, sucked, swallowed & had his fill… when satisfied he left… I was hurt…
Damn mosquito!!!
A visitor mistook an insane asylum for a high school building and went in. When his error was pointed out to him, he said to the attendant, “Well, I don’t suppose there is much difference.” “Oh, there’s a big difference, Mister,” said the attendant, “Here you have to show improvement before you get out.”
While serving as a church usher, I was carrying out a tradition of escorting parishioners to their seats before the service began. After her return to the entrance of the sanctuary to escort the next party, I greeted two strangers and asked them where they would like to sit. Looking confused, the young man smiled and said, “Nonsmoking, please.”
A visitor from Holland was chatting with his American friend and was jokingly explaining about the red, white and blue in the Netherlands flag.
“Our flag symbolizes our taxes,” he said. “We get red when we talk about them, white when we get our tax bill, and blue after we pay them.”
“That’s the same with us,” the American said, “only with Biden we see stars, too.”
