A safari ride to remember
Tourists on a jungle safari in a small bus were riding down the road in an Indian jungle preserve chatting and taking pictures of the foliage, when they came upon a bull elephant in the bush. The big guy was not amused by the interruption. The elephant turned around and came charging at the little bus… As the largest land animal on Earth, elephants are responsible for close to 500 deaths a year. The largest elephant ever weighed in at 24,000 lbs. It was a large male African elephant with a shoulder height of 13 feet and giant 11 foot tusks. They can crush most foes without much struggle, but they have developed a defensive strategy to avoid unnecessary conflict. Elephants can get mad for a variety of reasons, just like humans get mad on bad days. For instance, they may have encountered poachers in their last human interaction. They could also be hungry, hurt or scared. You definitely don’t want to spook an elephant! Whatever the cause, you especially want to avoid these massive mammals.
In the first video below you get to see the thrill that these tourists going backwards at 35 miles per hour to avoid being crushed by the charging bull elephant.
A raging elephant in an attack mode can be seen running towards the vehicle full of tourists. The driver puts the bus in reverse and moves the vehicle backwards. The trumpeting elephant even hits the vehicle twice. He then disappears into the forest leaving the tourists gasping for breath. “The tourists have described it as their lifetime experience and close shave with death as well,” forest officials said. The driver, Prakash, displayed exemplary courage and skill by driving such a long distance at high speed in reverse as the elephant charged on. Officials said normally, the wild elephants are used to movement of safari vehicles and tourists. However, they are unpredictable. Elephants are actually really scared of bees. If you have enough forethought, you might want to carry a big speaker system equipped with African bee sounds that will chase them away.
The second video below is much longer showing a standoff between two busses and an elephant trying to exact a toll for using her road.
Elephantine Humor
Some people say elephants love alcohol because they love the taste…
but I think it’s because they drink to forget.
I took my 7 year old son to the zoo today. We were walking around and soon he said, “Look Dad! It’s a frickin’ Elephant!” I was shocked and slightly angry, as everybody was looking at us. “What did you just call it?” I asked. “It’s a frickin’ Elephant, it says so on the picture!” he said, and he spelled it out, A F R I C A N Elephant.
What do you get if you cross a parrot with an elephant?
An animal that tells you everything that it remembers!
A pink elephant walks into a bar
The barman looks at him and says,
“You’re too early mate, he’s not in yet.”
