Dog gone friend
Dasha Samatoina was visiting Scotland’s Aberdeen Seaton Park from London. She took her cavapoo dog “Bear” for a walk with a friend and her dog. The Cavapoo is across between a toy poodle and a Cavalier spaniel. As the two ladies walked and talked the dogs entertained each other running around particularly a construction site nearby. “Lola” led “Bear” through the hills and hollows of the site for a while. When it was time to go back home the ladies called their dogs, but only Lola returned. The women walked around the park calling and climbing over the mounds of displaced dirt, but could not find Bear. During the next couple of days they walked the park and called and called, even recruiting neighbors and eventually the local fire department to see if the had any suggestions where Bear could have gone.
Dasha was getting frantic when four days had passed and no one saw or heard anything from her furry friend. Eventually as the firemen reheard the story, they suggested that the girls take Lola out to the park and tell Sue’s dog to find Bear. Lola understood and ran through the construction site to a hole the equipment had made. “And that’s exactly what happened,” Dasha said. “Lola led us to one of the holes on a site we had not properly looked at and she was very persistent to go down the hole. This time they could hear faint barking coming from the opening. “I just started screaming at it. I was hysterical and crying. The thought of him being down there in the cold and dark terrified me.”
With all the commotion from dogs and humans, the video below shows Bear was finally able to dig his way to freedom. It is thought both dogs went down the hole but Bear, who is bigger than Lola, was unable to escape. “I think he was a few feet down because his bark was quite muffled. But I could feel he was digging under the ground – I was just hoping he was going the right way. It is amazing how strong he is to be able to dig himself out after three days with no food or water,” she said. Bear spent the night at the vets where he was treated for sand in his eyes, scratches to his nose and given fluids as he was dehydrated. Bear, Dasha, Sue and Lola were very relieved and happy to be reunited.
Doggone humor
Q: What do you call a dog magician?
A: A labracadabrador.
I spend three minutes every day choosing a TV channel to leave on for my dog.
Then I go to work, and people take me seriously as an adult.
I dressed my dog up as a cat for Halloween.
Now he won’t come when I call him.
My brother was driving with his six year old son when they passed a race track. The boy asked what the building was. Father replied, “That is a place where people go to race dogs.” The boy thought about it for a minute and commented, “I bet the dogs win.”
