Italian garbagemen 1 million Euro
Francesa Pizzoli had a regular habit after work Friday she would buy a scratch off lottery ticket and then throw it away for the garbage collection on Monday. Francesa went last Sunday to check her ticket at her local shop after the drawing, the lottery ticket reader machine indicated the ticket was “non-payable.” That was because smaller retailers can only redeem small wins. But Francesa didn’t realize she had won the big jackpot. Francesca always played the same numbers, as they were associated with a loved one. Monday morning a family member congratulated her saying that her regular numbers had won the big prize. They immediately ran back to the shop, only to discover that the ticket had already been thrown away and the trash collected.
Francesa called the local office of SANB and talked to Roberto Nicola Toscano, the director of local waste management company. Roberto offered his help in finding the missing ticket, although he admitted their chances were slim. “We reconstructed the journey of the ticket, without much hope of finding it, as it had already been picked up by a garbage truck,” Toscano told local news agency. However, they were actually able to find the vehicle which had taken the trash from the store, that day, but then their quest to retrieve the ticket hit another snag: “It couldn’t be emptied at our facility due to the risk of waste contamination.” Toscano’s team then spent a considerable amount of time sifting through six tons of trash in the truck looking for the ticket. Despite all hope seemingly being lost the stub they were looking for was miraculously found in one piece. Toscano added that the woman who initially lost the ticket “cried with emotion,” when she was told the good news. The waste management director also joked that he “touched the lucky ticket in the hope that it might bring us some luck too.”
Francesca was able to get her winnings in the end, minus the costs she had to pay for the public agency’s help in tracking it down. However, with a big lottery pay out of $1.16 million it’s safe to say it was worth it for everyone.

Lonny was a notorious tightwad and got teased often. One day his buddies teased him into buying two lottery tickets and wouldn’t you know it, he won. After learning that he had become an instant millionaire he still was not very happy.
His pal asked him. “Why aren’t you jumping for joy.”
He responded, “I am upset that I wasted my money on that other lottery ticket.”
