Make America Healthy Again

It might surprise you to learn that certain food additives found in bread, baked goods, and candy on grocery store shelves in the United States aren’t allowed in Europe. Likewise, European Union regulations prohibit the use of different drugs and hormones given to farm animals to promote growth or increase production. Europe takes a more precautionary approach to evaluating chemicals and additives compared to the United States. “One key difference is that historically the United States has been more insistent in focusing on the probability or likelihood of hazards or bad things occurring, and the European Union approach has been more precautionary; they give attention to the mere possibility,” says Kansas State professor Dr. Kastner. That has resulted in the EU banning more food than the United States.

Here are some of the greatest hits banned outside the US:

Mountain Dew  isn’t the healthiest thing, but it gets even worse when you add in brominated vegetable oil. This ingredient is flame-retardant and has been used in American sodas for decades. In some, it can cause skin lesions, memory loss, and nerve problems. That’s exactly why Europe and Japan have banned it from all food and beverages. Coca-Cola and PepsiCo have promised to remove it but still have yet to deliver on this promise.

Cow’s Milk – While becoming less common in the United States, some dairy farms still practice the use of rBST in their milk. This is a hormone that causes increased milk production.

Boxed Mac and Cheese – Our beloved box of Kraft Mac and Cheese has food dye. While Kraft has promised to go au natural, other brands still dye their food with yellow #5 and #6.  These food additives are banned in Austria, Norway, and some other European countries because it can cause hyperactivity, increased cancer risk, and allergic reactions.

Chicken – Chicken may be one of the healthier meats to eat in the United States, but our chicken isn’t so great according to the outside world. First of all, chicken is sometimes fed arsenic, which makes the meat appear pinker and fresher. Additionally, chlorine is sometimes used to wash the meat to kill any microorganisms on the bird. /i

Consumer preference is helping to reduce use of food additives, like the red dye in M&M’s. Manufacturers are really paying attention to some of these issues because now there are consumers who are saying, “We don’t want these things in our food. Almost every manufacturer has a natural or alternative product line, or they have acquired one for their portfolio. “Another difference between the United States and Europe is that the food industry has a very strong lobbying presence in the United States. A lot of times those voices are really heard, and they help drive the creation of regulation and policy that exists around these kinds of foods.” President Donald Trump has reclaimed the presidency due to the endorsement of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his “Make America Healthy Again,” or MAHA, movement. True health includes both lifestyle choices and scientific advances. It is essential that President Trump and MAHA advocates understand this balance.

Poisonous puns

Nancy Pelosi said if she was married to Donald Trump she’d poison his coffee.
Donald Trump said if he was married to her, he’d drink it!

The blushing bride said, “The two best things I cook are meat loaf and apple dumplings.”
The new husband asked, “Which is this.”

I don’t believe all that health food stuff.  I don’t want to be known as someone who only eats bean sprouts. I eat fat, that is what makes the body comfortable. Fat makes it possible for two people to be very close and not hurt each other.

Waiter! This food is terrible.  I cannot eat it, You had better get the manager.”
The waiter replied, “It won’t do any good, the manager won’t eat it either.”
