Patience and persistence
A lottery club in Michigan won a $1.85 million lottery jackpot after 20 years of pooling together to buy lottery tickets. The five anonymous winners, who dubbed themselves the Lunch Bunch Crew from an anonymous company, bought the winning Lotto 47 ticket at Tom’s Market in Ortonville. Members of the group, who take turns buying a ticket each week, didn’t realize they had won. “One day at work, a few of us saw an article about a winning Lotto 47 ticket that was sold in Ortonville and remembered we had never checked our ticket,” an anonymous group member told Michigan Lottery officials. “We texted the club member who had purchased it asking where she purchased the ticket and if she had checked it yet. When we got a reply from her saying she had not checked it, but purchased it at Tom’s Market, we knew right away. We started jumping and shouting with joy!” The Lunch Bunch Crew elected to take their prize in a lump-sum payment of about $1.2 million.
A Clinton County Michigan man’s tough day turned into one he will never forget as he brought home a “$1 million” jackpot prize playing the Michigan Lottery’s 20X Cashword instant game. “I was having a bad day, so I left work early and stopped to purchase a Lottery ticket on my way home,” said the 40-year-old winner who chose to remain anonymous. “When I scratched the ticket and saw I’d won $1 million, all I could think was: ‘There is no way this is real.’” “I took the ticket back in to the store to scan it and got a message to file a claim. I still was having a hard time believing it was real, so I scanned it on the Lottery app to confirm,” the winner said. “It was an unbelievable feeling when the amount of $1 million came up on the screen!” The winner visited Lottery headquarters in Lansing recently to claim his prize. He elected to receive the money as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $634,000 rather than that annuity. With his winnings, he plans on buying a new truck and saving the remainder.
Here’s the cold hard truth when it comes to the lottery: for one of the most popular lotteries in the United States your odds of winning are about 1 in 176 million. The Ortonville lottery club above paid $10 per week rotating, paying about 12 times per year for 20 years. So each person invested $2400. State and local taxes on the $1.2 million amount would be about 29% leaving the prize of $852,000 divided among the five each one got $170,400. Minus their $2400 investment they should clear $168,000 each. The gang pledges to keep their jobs.

Beverly Heels.
I don’t know why people bad mouth lotteries.
I pay taxes and odds of winning the lottery are way better than the odds of getting good government.
I couldn’t afford an Ancestry DNA kit…
So I just announced that I had won the lottery. I soon found out who all my relatives are.
