The Lost Cat TV series

On Jan. 7th, the Palisades Fire as a brush fire. The blaze grew to 23,448 acres before it was declared 100% contained on Friday. The fire damaged or destroyed more than 6,800 structures. The ferocious wildfires erupted and fueled by powerful winds and dry conditions roared across the Los Angeles area, killing at least 29 people, including some who died trying to prevent the fires from engulfing their homes, and trying to find and save their pets. “Aggie” who is a gray Coon cat about 5 years old, was gifted to Katherine Kiefer by a friend during the COVID-19 pandemic. Katherine was at a doctor’s appointment the day fire engulfed her neighborhood, and her children couldn’t find her Maine coon cat “Aggie,” who was prone to hiding when they tried to rescue her. “The one thing my 82 year old mom kept asking was: ‘Did you get Aggie?” daughter Carolyn recalls. The beloved feline was feared dead for two months after the Palisades wildfire in Los Angeles left her family’s home in ashes. Katherine Kiefer still held out some hope.

It appears the tall tale that all cats have nine lives may be true for Aggie. Aggie was found in a state of starvation with a few other pets on street corner a few miles from the site of the burned out house. She was taken to a local animal shelter and identified by her rescue chip. The shelter called Carolyn to explain the find. Aggie was nearly starved and nearly dead from complications of living on the street. “Aggie was basically skin and bone, and in a state of absolute starvation,” Carolyn said. The Shelter provided Aggie with food, warmth and shelter as well as several blood transfusions after being rescued. Over the weekend, Kathryn and Carolyn went to the shelter to visit Aggie who still has few more days of medical treatment before Aggie can come home. Carolyn shared their reunion Saturday in a TikTok video that quickly garnered more than 1 million likes. It shows tears pouring from Katherine Kiefer’s eyes as Aggie curled up in her arms. Kathryn said, “I was very much worried that I was going to wake up and (discover) finding Aggie had been a dream.”

Over the weekend, Kathryn and Carolyn went to the shelter to visit Aggie who still has few more days of medical treatment before Aggie can come home. While embracing Aggie, Kiefer became overwhelmed with emotions after finally finding the pet that had been by her side throughout all of her lung cancer treatments. “Hi Aggie, I’m so happy to see you. I never thought I would see you again,” Kathryn said.  We’re so lucky and so grateful,” she said. “I have to keep pinching myself.” Social media users have been so touched by the pair’s reunion video that many have been asking for daily updates. The family will officially be reunited with Aggie when she is released from the hospital Thursday. Kiefer said she’s anxiously waiting, and she has a message for other pet owners: “Don’t underestimate cats,” she said.

Cat-egorically funny

I think my cats are communists.
They expect free food and keep talking about Mao.

Why don’t cats make good burglars anymore?
They can’t get past the laser defenses.

We had an old cat named Tiger that needed medication every day. Needless to say the cat did not consider this a good time. So every night the husband would get a big towel and wrap it around the cat. He wrestled the toweled cat between his knees and forced its mouth open and put the pill down its throat. This worked pretty well, until one night the squirming cat wiggled away and my husband dropped the pill which rolled across the floor. Tiger bounded after the pill and promptly ate it right up.

How programmers and cats are alike?
They both can sit in the same position for long time and get excited when they find a bug.
