Traveling cats
Cat stows away
A Pennsylvania family’s pet cat ended up joining them for a weekend adventure in New Hampshire for a marathon, and then on to New York. Mara Denardo explained they found the feline had stowed away atop their van. They made it about 100 miles from their home in Kittanning, PA before they stopped for gas and discovered their cat, “Ray Ray” was clinging to the luggage strapped to the roof. “We’re like, what do we do? We’re already so far into the trip and we have a long way to go to get to New Hampshire, so my husband said, ‘He’s just going to have to go with us.'” The family said Ray Ray had managed to stay atop the vehicle by hunkering down between the suitcases on the roof of the car, even while they were driving 70 mph on the highway. The Denardos made a stop for supplies at a pet store and continued on with their weekend plans. They said Ray Ray accompanied them on their adventures from the comfort of a cat-carrier backpack. “He had such a good time and a great adventure,” Denardo said. “I actually did videos and pictures everywhere we went of him and it was like his whole adventure.”
Bad Karma
Long stigmatised for bringing bad luck or for links with the occult, black cats have found salvation in a Spanish town that has temporarily banned their adoption to ward off potentially sinister Halloween “rituals.” Any adoption or fostering request for the felines will be denied from October 1 to November 10 to prevent “possible risk… derived from superstitions, rituals or irresponsible uses”, the animal welfare service of Terrassa, a town north of Barcelona, announced on October 6. The decision was taken “due to the arrival of the Halloween period and following the prudence criteria applied by various animal protection entities”, added authorities in the town in the northeastern region of Catalonia. Local newspaper Diari de Terrassa quoted animal welfare councillor Noel Duque as saying last week that adoption requests for black cats increase close to Halloween “for ritual purposes” or “as decoration because ‘it’s cool.'” Exceptions will be “duly justified and assessed by the technical team of the center, where there is a full safety guarantee and a reliable history of the applicant”, the animal welfare service said. The normal adoption and fostering process will resume after Halloween, it added, not ruling out a similar ban in the future. Terrassa is home to more than 9,800 cats, 1 cat for every 28 people.
Good Carma
Animal rescuers in New York’s Suffolk County used a remote-controlled car to rescue a kitten stranded in a pipe between two storm drains. The Strong Island Animal Rescue League said that rescuers responded to call for assistance from Suffolk police when the kitten’s predicament was discovered Tuesday night in Manorville. The sewer pipe was found to be too small for rescuer to crawl through and too long or the owner to reach the kitten. So the rescuers decided to use a remote-controlled car for the rescue. They had the little car drive into the pipe from one side and used it to push the kitten safely out the other side. The rescue plan “worked perfectly,” Strong Island Animal Rescue League said, although the RC car took on some water damage. “We plan to buy more capable remote control car and work smarter not harder,” the post said.
Meow???
I found five orphaned kittens and decided to foster them. I named them Thumb, Index, Middle, Ring, and Pinky.
They sure are a handful to raise.
Trump walks into the Oval office, turns to his administrative team and says, “I want to organize the deportation of 10,000 Muslims and one kitten.”
Everyone looks around the table and, after a long silence, someone asks, “Mr. President, why do you want to deport a kitten?”
Trump smiles and turns to the rest of the table. “You see, no one cares about the Muslims.”
My cat seems to like stormy weather…
When it rains, it purrs.
A newly married man came home after work one evening to discover his new bride in tears. Comforting her he asked what the problem was and she confided. “You know that cake I said I was going to make from your mother’s recipe?” “Yes.” “Well, I put it out to cool and the cat ate half of it,” she said. He consoled her, “Don’t worry, I know where we can get another cat.”
