Who is luckier?
A fishing crew recently set a new Alabama state record by catching a massive bull shark at the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo. The Bon Secour Butchers team, fishing aboard “The Orca,” landed the 494.5-pound shark at the tournament held on Dauphin Island. This surpasses the previous 448-pound bull shark record set back in 2015. An Alabama Deep Sea Rodeo representative said that seeing such a catch at their weigh station energizes everyone involved, making them all feel part of it. Boat captain Lyons explained, “When you are tackling an animal this large, it is critical to leverage heavy tackle and perform excellent boat work” “With a line in the water with that much tension there are risks involved, you want to avoid anything that could damage the line, such as the boat itself. Lyons added that the combination of angler skill, captain expertise, and patience was key. “A catch like that coming through our weigh station really galvanizes everyone and every entity involved. We all feel a part of the catch.” For their efforts, the team won $6,000 for first place.
Matt Glass, president of the 91st Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo, stated that it’s incredible to see an angler achieve a once-in-a-lifetime catch and set a record at the rodeo. The Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo is the world’s largest fishing tournament, attracting over 4,000 anglers and 75,000 spectators each year. This year’s event had 3,734 participants who weighed in a total of 3,243 fish.
Not so famous
“John Smith,” 32 years old, from northern Michigan was just a regular guy. John said he is not a frequent player, but the other day at the Scott’s Quick Stop store on North Van Dyke Road in Marlette. Marlette is about 50 miles east of Saginaw. “I had been to Jack’s earlier in the day and bought a couple of tickets,” he told the Michigan Lottery. “I had to return an item later in the day and decided to buy three more tickets, and one of those was the $1 million winner!” “John” gambled spending $10 to buy 5 scratch off tickets. “When I stopped at the store, I bought the lottery tickets on a whim,” the man said in the release. “I started scratching them off when I got in my car, and when I saw the star symbol with ‘1MIL’ underneath on my Diamond Wild Time ticket, I didn’t believe it. He said it took some effort to convince himself of the prize’s authenticity. It wasn’t until my girlfriend scanned it on the lottery app and $1 million came up on the screen that it finally hit me that I really won.” “It is an unbelievable feeling,” he continued.
“John” Tuesday visited the Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He chose to receive it as a one-time lump sum payment of about $634,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount. He told the Michigan Lottery crew that he intends to pay off his mortgage and save the rest.

Lucky Fishing
The local angling club was having its annual dinner and presentation of trophies. When the members arrived they were surprised to see all the chairs spaced about six feet apart. One of them asked the caterer:
“That’s a strange way to arrange seats for a party.”
“We always do it like that so that members can do full justice to their fish stories.”
Years ago: An East German and a West German were fishing on opposite sides of the river. The West German was pretty steadily pulling in fish after fish while the Communist just watched and wiggled his line occasionally.
Finally, he yelled across, “Why are you catching fish after fish and on this side while I am not getting a nibble?”
The West German thought for a minute and said, “Maybe on that side they are afraid to open their mouths.”
Lonny was a notorious tightwad and got teased often. One day his buddies teased him into buying two lottery tickets and wouldn’t you know it, he won. After learning that he had become an instant millionaire he still was not very happy. His pal asked him why aren’t you jumping for joy. He said, “I am upset that I wasted my money on that other lottery ticket.”
A 90-year-old Florida man won $16 million in the lottery. He is using the money to start a foundation to help them remember where he left his pants.
