Woman disappears through the lawn
It was not aliens or a magic trick, Danielle Tammone was looking to celebrate her birthday Thursday Morning. She walked into her backyard and a warm sunny day and she disappeared. As she walked across her yard admiring the view of Lotus Lake with her dog… she disappeared. Daniell fell straight down about 8 feet into about 3 foot of mud and rotten debris which cushioned her landing. That was nice, but now she could look up and see light streaming in through the 12” hole above and there was no way for her to get out. Once her eyes adjusted to the sparse light she saw there was circular wall round her and she tried to climb on the bricks, but whenever she grabbed a brick for a handhold the brick came off in her hand. Fearing she would make the rest of the surprising underground grotto collapse she did the next best thing…She started yelling. Daisy could hear Danielle and looked down the hole, but was not much help.
As she began to panic, her thoughts raced toward death. Today was her birthday and now this might be the day I die. “And then the panic starts, because you’re like wow I could die today. This could not end well. I could be buried alive.” Danielle decided screaming for help was better than waiting to die. Her yelling paid off, two of her neighbors came looking for her from the screams and saw her crocs strewn on the grass. Her neighbors urged Danielle to keep screaming while desperately searching the yard. “At first, we thought she was in the shed or something. We were not looking on the ground,” Christine Chanowsky. “And they said keep screaming, don’t stop screaming,” Danielle said. “Oh my God, she fell into the ground,” one neighbor cried out, adding, “we are on the phone with 911.” “You’re going to be fine, Danielle. They are on their way,” the other reassured her.
Danielle also told CBS News that she tried to use her legs to climb out, but the material around the opening continued to break apart. Their discovery was captured on video below. Police arrived soon afterward, and officers used a ladder from a nearby garage to help Danielle climb out, according to News 12. “Firemen, cops, ambulance, special unit, EMTs – they were wonderful,” she told CBS News. “I was tearing up,” she said during her interview with CBS News. “I was crying. As soon as she got out of the hole, just gave her the biggest hug.” “I feel fine because it was soft down there,” she said. “Thank God I didn’t land on stone. It was just sod and water, but still scary.” Despite the ordeal, Danielle said she was grateful to have made it out safely, sharing with CBS News that emergency responders even sang “Happy Birthday” to her afterward. “It was great.”
