Guard Dogs Sleeping and Talking
Two working farm dogs have gone viral after a video showed them sleeping through their shift. WoollyShire Farm in Virginia, shared footage of Donuts, a 7-year-old sheepdog, sleeping soundly and refusing to stir as his owner tried to wake him. His canine colleague, Britches, 5, followed suit. “It’s me, Donuts. Good morning. It’s Monday,” Natasha Sims, 42, called out to her sleeping dog. Donuts reluctantly lifted his head and opened his eyes before resuming his slumber among the sheep. The dogs are integral to the everyday running of the farm, their owner said, “Oh, that’s how you feel about Monday? Yeah? That rough, huh? You’re out there slaying demons, or just your inner demons?” She then moved over to her other sleeping hound, Britches, who wagged his tail as he slept. “Britches, you still there? Give me two tail wags if you are,” the owner called out, but Britches did not wag his tail. Instead, he momentarily lifted his head before lying back down to rest. “Sleepyheads. We had thunderstorms last night, so everyone’s all like: ‘We’re tired. We’re so tired, lady,'” Sims said. The farmer attempted to stir Donuts with a breakfast of a fried egg and casserole, but he still would not wake.
Sims told Newsweek: “Donuts loves to sleep. When I picked him up for the first time, he settled on in the trailer and went to sleep. “I always say, he was born sleeping. When day shift rolls around, Donuts finds himself a nice spot in the barn, preferably near a fan, and goes right to snoozing. Britches gives him peace of mind, and if Britches needs backup, Donuts will be right there. “Donuts isn’t a morning dog, that is for sure. He is the perfect mascot for all the people who hit snooze more than twice. No matter what is on the menu for breakfast, it takes a lot of coaxing from me to get Donuts up. He works hard and needs to eat his breakfast.” Sims said the dogs are a mix between a Great Pyrenees and Akbash, and they are indispensable assets to WoollyShire Farm, as they allow her to sleep soundly through the night knowing the livestock is in safe hands. Sims gives her pooches the choice between the night shift and day shift, and Donuts always works at night, preferring the cooler temperatures.

Skye is a big gray Corso guard dog that has a giant deep aggressive bark at any change in the house. Skye also has his soft puppy voice for the folks she likes. “He puts his big guard bark on in case it’s an intruder, then you realize it’s nanny so puppy voice comes out,” After hearing a knock Corso hurtled downstairs to see who was at the door. “Who is it?” Porter asked Skye. As soon as Skye realized it was her grandmother Sue Porter, 60, she ran excitedly towards her and the pitch of her bark increased significantly. “Hello little girlie,” Sue Porter said as she greeted her dog grandson. “Skye is a 3-year-old cane corso, who are bred for guarding. She has a natural guard instinct and protective personality and barks when people come to the door to alert me,” Marisha Porter told Newsweek. “But she is a very soppy baby who also loves her family, so when she realized it was my mom, her nanny, she was very excited and there’s the puppy voice! “She does the same when I come to the door that is how she greets us.” Porter explained Skye is very family-orientated and goes with her everywhere. “She loves my mom. She rolls over when she sees her and lays her head in her hand and falls asleep. She gets very excited when she sees her,” she said.
