That’s a shocker
Michaelle Whalen was following her husband’s truck home driving down I-75 near St. Petersburg, FL and while the interstate was being pelted with lots of rain. Michaelle had a camera on the dash recording the storm and the truck in front of her with Ed and their daughter inside. As she recorded their journey, they all had a shocking experience. As you will see in the video below. Ed is a very attractive guy. Lightning struck the moving truck sending flames and sparks flying. Ed reports, he felt a slight buzz in the car when it struck. Also, his elder daughter, sitting next to him, jumped on his lap and screamed. Fortunately, nobody in the vehicle was hurt. However, Edward’s truck was “completely fried.” Reportedly, all the people in the car were perplexed after the strike. Ed got the now dead truck to the berm with its momentum, but every electrical and computer system in the vehicle was dead.
The National Weather Service syays lightning bolts usually damage cars by frying the electrical system, breaking windows and destroying tires. The NWS says on its website that the “outer metal shell of hard-topped metal vehicles does provide protection to those inside a vehicle with the windows closed. ”However, it’s just a myth that rubber tires offer any protection from lightning strikes, the agency says, as lightning can pass through tires’ steel belts and into the ground. When thunder roars and lightning cracks across the sky, there are two safe places to seek shelter: inside a sturdy building or inside a hard topped car. A lightning bolt is so powerful (it’s hotter than the surface of the sun!) it will go through the tires or could actually melt them. Rubber tires offer no protection from lightning. We also know this true because people have been killed by lightning while riding on motorcycles and bicycles during a thunderstorm.” While Ed Whalen and his daughter walked away from the truck Ed added that he and his fellow travelers were “really confused” after the strike and had “bad headaches.”
