Breckan Andrews, a junior at Seaman High School, said the unconventional way he and his friends arrived at prom started when they took a trip to a Sonic fast food restaurant in Topeka and spotted the hot dog-shaped vehicle parked nearby at a local Dillons grocery store. The Wienermobile was in Topeka on Saturday, April 17, for a NASCAR pre‑race celebration. Breckan and his friends spotted the hot dog on wheels and decided to stop for photos. One of my buddies was like, ‘Can we rent this thing for the Prom?’ and I was like, ‘Well, what if we just ask about prom? What if they take us? It’s tomorrow,'” Breckan told KSNT-TV. “Like, that’d be insane.” The friends approached Maggie Dawson, the Wienermobile’s “Hot Dogger” driver, with their request. “I’m just used to asking weird questions like that, to be honest. I like talking to everyone and it just made sense in my mind. You miss all the shots you don’t take,” Breckan told WIBW-TV.
Maggie Dawson said the decision was easy. “Hearing about prom, I mean, I have such special memories, like with my high school experience with my prom and knowing that we could add the weenie magic of the big dog to it,” Dawson said. “We figured it had to be done.” “It was like a little light bulb,” she said. “We were like, ‘Well, what time is prom?” And from there, we checked our schedule, and we were able to make it happen.” The Oscar Mayer crew delivered the students to prom free of charge. “People take limos,” student Cooper Lietz said. “This is basically just a big hot dog limo.” Maggie said she had been looking forward to the moment all day, knowing she would be part of a once‑in‑a‑lifetime memory for the students. It turned out not only to be the hit of the prom, but the top local TV story. Great for the Grad’s as you will see in the video below and good publicity for the wiener.
