This seems upside down

If you live and work on a farm in Wisconsin one of the highlights of the Summer is going to the county fair. Along with winning prizes and eating corn dogs you get to take the thrill rides that only come once a year unless you travel. County Fair patrons got more of an adventure than they bargained for Sunday when a three D twister roller coaster ride got stuck, leaving them hanging upside down for hours. Eight passengers were left suspended when a mechanical failure stalled the ride at the Forest County Festival in Crandon, Wisconsin. Fortunately there were only eight people on this trip when the train got stopped by something connected to the track with the cars and the patrons hanging by their seat belts. The ride was recently inspected by the state of Wisconsin here on site,” said fire department Capt. Brennan Cook.

Video below show a rescuer climbing up the side of the Fireball ride, while passengers wait upside down. A brave maintenance man climbed the outside of the track in an attempt to free the stuck cars while the riders waited patiently upside down, hoping nothing else would come loose. “Our department has never experienced a situation like we did (Sunday),” Antigo Fire/EMS told  WAOW. An off-duty firefighter with specialized ropes rescue training happened to be on the scene and advised the Crandon Fire Department on potential rescue options, according to the fire department.  Men in harnesses could be seen scaling the side of the Fireball to reach riders. Plan A could not work with the local equipment.  Due to the height of the ride, special equipment and rescue teams were called in to help. Firefighters eventually deployed two cherry pickers to free them. Passengers waited 45 minutes for a ladder truck with a 100-foot platform to come from a neighboring town. Firefighters from three cities assisted the Crandon Fire Department in the rescue.

The first passenger got back to solid ground at 3:20 p.m. CT, about two hours after emergency crews were dispatched. The last passenger reached the ground at 5:01 p.m.  “Families are being reunited with people as they come down off of the ride from the rescuers and everybody seems to be doing as best as they can, given the circumstances.” Kudos to the little girl at the end car who told the fireman to go rescue the older man first because he was struggling. That little girl deserves a medal of courage for sure. Though amusement and theme park rides are generally very safe and not prone to serious accidents, hiccups do occasionally happen. Data provided by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions estimates the odds of being seriously injured on a fixed-site ride at a U.S. amusement park are 1 in 15.5 million rides taken. However, the rate may be higher for fair and carnival rides, as they are often disassembled and reassembled and are subject to varying rules between states.

A modern artist finally got his painting into a prestigious gallery and was bragging to his friend about the great acceptance this portended for him. When they went to the gallery the friend was shocked to see that his masterpiece was hung upside down. I said: “Yes, but down here, we call it evaporation.”

The first bat asks the second, “Do you remember the worst day of your life?”
“I sure do,” said the second bat. “It was the day I had diarrhea.”
