Kyle, no one really cares
The beautiful remote town of Kyle in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan is currently seeking a new mayor to replace its current leader when he retires. With just 400 residents, the humble hamlet of Kyle has up until now been famous as the site where the 12,000 year-old bones of a Wooly Mammoth were uncovered, during a 1960’s road construction project. Kyle is located about 45 miles from Swift Current, Saskatchewan’s sixth-largest city. The town is famed for its vintage drive-in movie theatre, annual Rodeo Beach Volleyball tournaments, and soon-to-open dog park, aiming to maintain its reputation as “a safe place to raise a family” as described in town literature. Named after its original settler, Jeremiah Kyle in 1923, the town had a population of 413 according to the 2021 census. With a land area of 0.45 sq mile, it had a population density of 922.1 per square mile.
The rural community of around 400 residents has been without a mayoral candidate since George Williams, the current mayor, announced his retirement following a three-year term. Despite outreach efforts, Kyle’s council has struggled to find a successor, leading to concerns over the town’s governance. “It’s a little concerning, but I am confident someone will step forward.” but time is running out. The election will be held Nov. 13, and two attempts to secure a nomination from the reportedly declining local population have so far been unsuccessful. The Kyle council has stated that should the mayoral and council seats remain unfilled, temporary appointments will be made, followed by another election if necessary. “We will continue calling a by-election until we fill the mayor spot and the other councilor spot as well,” Amber Dashney the chief political officer still in office said. Dashney said the council will select a deputy mayor to handle the duties of the office if no candidates run for mayor in the Nov. 13 election.
This is not a problem unique to Kyle – several other small town communities have faced similar problems as there are not enough people to fill local councils and leadership positions, revealed the former President of the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association, Gordon Barnhart, via CKOM-AM.
Cute Canadians, Eh?
A Canadian visits America…
and gets held at gunpoint by a Venezuelan illegal.
My wife says I get mean when I drink whiskey. Now I drink Canadian whiskey.
I am still mean, but I feel more sorry about it.
I read on Facebook there is a Canadian political party leader that everyone loves
It’s probably not tru-deau.
As a Canadian, the Presidential Debate feels like overhearing your downstairs neighbors arguing about whether or not to set the building on fire.
