How much is that Barbie in the window?
Many girls in the western world had or at least knew some other girl that had barbie dolls. Mattel introduced the “Barbie” doll in1959. Barbie now comes in various skin colors and body shapes and of course has hundreds of outfits to match any occasion. She also has replaceable boyfriends of assorted looks. Mattel commissioned Stefano Canturi to create the finger-wide necklace and tiny matching ring to promote its new Barbie collection. The set features three carats of white diamonds set around a one carat, square emerald-cut pink diamond. Canturi also designed the doll’s black strapless party dress, peep-toe stilettos and tumbling blonde hair. Barbie history was made when this version was sold at auction for $302,500 to an anonymous bidder, the most ever the most ever paid for a Barbie. The previous record was $17,091, set in 2006. The proceeds of the sale of the bejeweled Barbie will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This Barbie version was commissioned by Mattel to promote the launch of the Barbie Basics line in Australia which features dolls wearing commonly available clothing. Huh?
