Is that a bird I smell?
Commuters on the West side of Toronto knew why traffic was stopped on two of their freeways. They could see the columns of smoke for miles. In Brampton, a Northwest suburb, a bird apparently tangled with some power lines and once incinerated, landed on the tinder dry grass. This triggered a fire that burned 20 acres of grass and blocked traffic on highway 407 and 410 for a couple of hours. Fire crews from Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon battled the blaze that broke out. A similar incident happened in the same area on Wednesday, according to police. Prime Minister Trudeau has promised more rain soon.
Humor through the haze
A fire started on some grasslands near a farm. The volunteer fire department was called to put out the fire. The volunteers arrived in a dilapidated old fire truck. They rumbled straight towards the fire, drove right into the middle of the flames and stopped! The firemen jumped off the truck and frantically started spraying water in all directions. Soon they had snuffed out the center of the fire, breaking the blaze into two easily-controlled parts. Watching all this, the farmer was so impressed with the volunteer fire department’s work and was so grateful that his farm had been spared, that right there on the spot he presented the volunteers with a check for $1,000. A local reporter asked the volunteer fire captain what they would do with the money. “That ought to be obvious,” he responded, wiping ashes off his coat. “The first thing we’re gonna do is get the brakes fixed on our truck!”
I showed up late for a Zoom meeting…
when asked for a reason, I confessed: “You wouldn’t believe the network traffic.”
I took a detour on the way home yesterday. Took me through 8 traffic circles,
but it got me where I was going, in a roundabout way.
If everything seems to be coming your way, you’re probably in the wrong lane.
