Adam Lockwood, a notorious 21-year-old free climber, posted a photo online that apparently shows himself standing at the top of the Shard skyscraper overlooking London at about 6:00am. Lockwood is a known thrill and publicity seeker, his previous stunts have included dangling from the 262-foot tall San Siro stadium in Milan and reportedly posing as a worker to climb a 1,200-foot crane in Dubai. Adam said: ‘Hanging off things doesn’t feel like much, it feels surreal to be suspended that high with no safety, but like all my other hangs, my brain is blank, my heartbeat doesn’t go up, and it feels almost peaceful. ‘It’s something I know I can do and that 99 per cent of the world can’t and never will do, so I feel obliged to use my ability and enjoy doing it in the process. ‘I love seeing things from height, I love having my body suspended hundreds of meters in the sky, I love the challenges of infiltrating secure places to achieve these goals and it’s something that has kept me alive since I started, and I don’t think I can give it up.’
As Adam made his way up the 1000 foot tallest building in the UK, shortly before 6 am local time; Police, paramedics and firefighters rushed to the scene near London Bridge Station in an attempt to coax him down. Police later confirmed the 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of trespass. George King-Thompson tried this earlier in the year almost reaching the top of the 95-story “Shard” George was given a six-month sentence in a young offender institution. The Italian designed building is on the south shore of the Thames in downtown and can be seen from 80 kilometers away. It houses offices, restaurants, a hotel and the highest public viewing platform in Britain on the 72nd floor. Adam was previously banned by a court from climbing tall buildings. Manchester City Council gave him a three-year anti-social behavior injunction that prohibited him from riding on the exterior of buses, trams and trains, climbing on buildings and cranes and from entering construction sites in England and Wales. This time he might be sentenced to 18 months in solitary confinement like the American “trespassers” in Washington.

I have a friend that does maintenance work on television transmitter towers, some of which are more than 1000′ in height. He doesn’t always wear a safety harness when climbing. I don’t think he grasps the gravity of the situation.
What do you call a bird that’s afraid of heights?

The NEA funded a large study proving that educational achievement and earned income are strongly correlated with height. The study carried out among hundreds of elementary school classes showed the tallest person in the room almost always had the highest income and education level.
