Brady Feigl, 32, is a player for the Long Island Ducks. He looks nearly identical to the other Brady Feigl, 27, who plays for the Las Vegas Aviators. The pair both measure up at 6 feet, four inches tall, have fiery red hair, and wear black rimmed glasses. Like many great athletes, both Brady Feigls had their surgeries performed by world-renowned orthopedist Dr. James Andrews. “The way we found about each other was through Dr. Andrews’ office,” right-handed Brady Feigl told the Ledger. “I was probably six or seven months out of surgery and their office called our trainer and said, “Hey, when’s Brady reporting for surgery? Is he getting down here tomorrow?” He was like, “He had it six months ago. What are you talking about?” “That’s how I found out there was two of us.” Brady Feigl looks so similar to his fellow minor league player, also named Brady Feigl, that the pair took a DNA test to find out if there’s any relation.
A few years later, in 2017, the duo fell into another identity crisis, after the University of Mississippi’s baseball team tagged the wrong Feigl on Twitter in a birthday tribute, where the Las Vegas player was signed at the time. Brady Feigl of the Las Vegas Aviators has already been mistaken for his older counterpart. “Wrong Brady Feigl,” the former San Diego Padres player responded. Strangely enough, these two were not separated at birth — the DNA test showed no biological connection. In addition to being confused for each other on Twitter, the elder Feigl makes sure to double-check any baseball card before signing: ‘He has like a Perfect Game card. I’m always like, “Ah, yeah, it’s not me. I’m sorry, I can’t sign it.” They’re like, “Can you still sign it?” I’m like, “No, I’m sorry, it’s not my card,”
That distinction – or, rather, indistinction – was unearthed by Texas Rangers beat writer Levi Weaver on Twitter, when he posted head shots of two minor league pitchers who happen to look nearly identical, both named ‘Brady Feigl.’ But as hard as it is to believe that the Brady Feigls have different parents and social security numbers, the two of them were actually born five years apart and they throw with opposite hands. The Feigls may not be the only two out there who are two identical strangers — an August 2022 study of 32 pairs by “Cell Reports” found that people who look alike yet are not related share genetic similarities. In the study, researchers asked the doubles to do a DNA test and fill out a questionnaire about their lives, according to CNN. The scientists performing the work also put the doppelgängers’ images through three different facial recognition programs. ‘We’re still brothers in a way,’ said the elder Feigl upon learning the results. ‘And we’ll always be Brady Feigl,’ his younger counterpart replied.
