Not fit for man
Last October, NYC was ranked the second “rattiest city” in America by Orkin Pest Control trailing only Chicago in the latest rankings. This was the big news for Gotham though it was followed shortly by tens of thousands of illegal aliens fighting with the rats for the food and sleeping spots on the streets. Historically the city’s efforts to control rat shas been chemical poison and most commuters are used to seeing the black bait boxes in the corners of the subway and many public buildings. City agencies have applied over 60,000 pounds of rodenticide poisons. The rat czarina has realized the procreator of NYC rats is not the animals it is the people and their wasteful, sloppy habits. New Yorkers waste roughly 6.5 million pounds of food every day. The prescription is mandating more secure garbage containers, enhance trash pickups in targeted neighborhoods and remove food from the normal waste system through compulsory municipal composting. Don’t leave plastic bags on the street filled with great smelling leftovers. For rats to go away, everyone in the city including the restaurants, schools and grocers — must be willing to address the fundamental issue of food waste.
Halloween might be behind us, but there is something spooky happening on the streets of Manhattan. On Wednesday, footage of what appeared to be a thick, bright-green sludge oozing around a drain a block away from the 9/11 Memorial and Museum began circulating on social media. Dan Pantelo shared a video of the bizarre incident and jokingly asked: “Looks radioactive,” one user commented as others joked that it was time to “call Ghostbusters” or that the sludge looked similar to the substance that turned the main characters of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” into mutants. A day later, the green substance is still present, though it has thinned down into large puddles of equally green liquid. New Yorkers are unfazed by the green sludge.
We could not resist the connection of the green ooze that activated the Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles to the city’s parks and pounds being overrun, but very slow by turtles. Yep, an invasive species of abandoned pet turtles is wreaking havoc in city parks — pushing out native animals and potentially exposing visitors to Salmonella, according to experts. The population of red-eared slider turtles is booming in Central Park and at Harlem’s Morningside Pond, where they’ve been snapping up grub and hogging turf from native turtles. “They grow large and they’re taking food and [sun] basking space from native turtles.” “They’re all over.” The city’s ponds are crawling with the reptiles because they were dumped there by irresponsible pet owners. They are the most popular turtle in the American pet trade. People buy them as pets or give them as pets then no one takes care of them. So instead of killing them they “compassionately” put them in the city’s parks. The turtles carry Salmonella which can put park-goers who touch them at risk of illness. Wayne Shelby, who was walking his two basset hounds in the park, added, “It’s a strange thing. It’s like the iguanas in Florida — they’ve taken over.”
If we only still had Frank Sinatra to “Start spreading the news”
of all this stuff in Central America.
The funny side of New York City
I just read that someone in New York gets stabbed every 52 seconds.
Poor guy.
New York is where you find the Big Apple.
Minnesota is where the Minneapolis.
The whole world should be worried if North Korea has a missile that can hit New York…
…because if it can make it there, it can make it anywhere.
Today I saw a car parked with a bumper sticker that said, “I miss New York.”
So I smashed his window in and stole his radio.
