What a grand Granddaughter

What a grand Granddaughter

Laura Tutcho of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada had purchased a ticket for the May 1st “Lotto Max” drawing at the Reddi Mart, but she forgot to check the numbers after the drawing until a conversation with her granddaughter. “My granddaughter told me that someone in Yellowknife won the jackpot,” she recalled. “So I went on the Internet to check the numbers.” “I’m just beside myself, it’s so exciting and overwhelming.” Tutcho’s ticket was the only one to match all seven numbers, earning a (US) $40.4 million jackpot — the largest lottery jackpot in Northwest Territories history. Laura is a member of the Délı̨nę First Nation, and a freelance interpreter has dedicated her career to the revitalization of the native Sahtúgot’ı̨ne language. Laura said she plans to use her winnings to help her family.

As my two-and-a-half-year old granddaughter and I are about to go out the door, I look down. As I looked down, our ‘big girl’ had her shoes on backwards. So I said, “Good job putting your shoes on by yourself, Love, but you have them on the wrong feet.”
She looks down. She looks back up at me and says with big innocent eyes, “But Grammy, I don’t have any other feet?”

A grandmother was telling her little granddaughter what her own childhood was like. “We used to skate outside on a pond. I had a swing made from a tire; it hung from a tree in our front yard. We rode our pony. We picked wild raspberries in the woods.” The little girl was wide-eyed, taking this all in. At last she said, “I sure wish I’d gotten to know you sooner!”

I didn’t know if my granddaughter had learned her colors yet, so I decided to test her. I would point out something and ask what color it was. She would tell me and was always correct. It was fun for me, so I continued. At last, she headed for the door, saying, “Grandma, I think you should try to figure out some of these colors yourself!”

My neighbor works in the operations department in the central office of a large bank. Customers call him when they have problems with their computers. One night he got a call from a woman at one of the branch banks who had this question: “You’ve got smoke coming from the back of this terminal. Do you guys have a fire downtown?”
