Caution: Know your beer truck driver
Just like global warming there seems to be increasing evidence that many beer trucks are not what they appear to be…If these criminals keep growing the world may be on the brink of a disastrous beer shortage. Oh the tragedy! Case in point: British police have a stout task ahead: recovering 70,000 pints worth of stolen Guinness. Two trailer truckloads of the famously creamy dark beer valued at $155,000 were stolen from a depot near Liverpool in northwest England, the Cheshire Constabulary said Thursday. “It is famously said that ‘Guinness is good for you,’ but that is only the case when it has been bought and paid for.” “We will settle for nothing less than the full recovery of all the items stolen and the worldwide beer collapse is stopped.”
The Guinness had been destined for pubs, but was snatched Monday night by two drivers who pulled up to an industrial park in Runcorn and hauled away the trailers containing about 800 barrels of stout. The value of the trailers was estimated at $67,000. The theft comes just weeks after a beer heist in the United States captured the public’s attention because of the brewer’s cheeky social media posts about the loss of roughly 34,000 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Police valued the Pabst theft from a Southern California warehouse at $70,000. Pabst Brewing Wednesday that the company will pay up to $20,000 to anyone who provides new information that leads to the recovery of 1,602 cases of Pabst Blue Ribbon and non-alcoholic Old Milwaukee beer. The beer went missing Aug. 17 in Southern California. An hour later, a “purported subcontracting company” submitted fake documents to pick up another $25,000 worth of beer. Both thefts occurred at an Anheuser-Busch distribution center The theft was one of several recent high-profile food heists. Late last year, 40,000 oysters, lobster worth $400,000 and a cache of crabmeat all were stolen in separate incidents within weeks of each other in New England. Earlier this year Swiss food giant Nestlé said 413,793 KitKat brand chocolate bars were stolen after leaving its production site in Italy.
These thefts and their smaller copy cats have severely threatened the bar food crowd and pressure is mounting to stop seeming young idealists from destroying a treasured part of Western culture. It was noted some of these truck thieves had Buffalo Wild Wings tattoos and Cleveland Indians ball caps. Authorities fear the angry bar crowd protests may become violent in the next few days.
