Clinging for a bull dog
Ali Zacharias was on her lunch break with Onyx at a Whole Foods in downtown Los Angeles on Grand Avenue near 8th Street. Onlookers were watching the 44-year-old interact with her dog. The black-and-white-speckled French bulldog is a little over a year old has different colored eyes, the left blue and the right green. “They were watching me feed him meatballs and white fish. … I spoil him.” He ducked under the table where she was sitting; she let him go as he explored. The next thing she knew, she said, a woman had picked up Onyx and was walking away with him. “I didn’t think that somebody was stealing my dog. I thought it was a misunderstanding, so I said, ‘That’s my dog. Excuse me,’ and she wasn’t listening,” Zacharias said. Ali followed the woman to a white KIA Forte four-door sedan, she allegedly pushed her out the doors and locked her out, leading Zacharias to jump on top of the hood in an attempt to stop the car from leaving.
She remembers seeing four people inside the car and recalled it going “faster and faster.” Harrison Pessy told the Los Angeles Times that he was heading home and heard “the screeching of the car and screaming,” prompting him to begin filming the now-viral video (linked below) of Ali clinging to the hood as the car speeds off. Pessy told the news organization that the vehicle’s driver “had slammed on the brakes and was literally trying to throw her off the car.” Ali eventually fell off the vehicle and they got away with Onyx. She was later treated by the Los Angeles Fire Department for minor abrasions.
Ali is offering a reward for his safe return, describing him as a “black Merle French bulldog whom she considers her “child.” The LAPD has identified two suspects, per the release. One suspect is described as a Black woman, approximately 25 years old, wearing a “gray hoodie, purple sweatpants, and black shoes.” The other is described as a Black male, also about 25 years old. French bulldogs are known for their square heads, “bat” ears and charming disposition. Expensive and in high demand, the dogs have been a favorite target of thieves in recent years in the L.A. area. Two of Lady Gaga’s French bulldogs were stolen in February 2021, and her dog walker was shot and wounded during the heist. More recently, thieves stole 12 purebred French bulldogs, including a 10-month-old show dog named Roll X, from a Gardena, CA pet shop.
Ugly dog jokes
The lady said to the kennel owner, “I want a dog I can be proud of. Does that dog have a good pedigree?” “Lady” the breeder said, “if that dog could talk it would not speak to either one of us.”
“I was a dogcatcher in this town for six years, but recently lost my job.”
New neighbor: “What was the matter a change of administration?”
“No. I finally caught the dog.”
On an upper Manhattan sidewalk a woman was causing a little commotion by walking her 4 foot Iguana on leash with a rhinestone collar. People walking by stopped to look and then double take. Some stopped and asked questions and then moved on. Two boys walked by and one said to the other: “Wow, that is one ugly dog.”
My psychiatrist told me I was crazy and I said I want a second opinion. He said, “Okay, you’re ugly too.”
