Finding Trouble
A teenaged burglar knew which house to pick, but forgot about the neighbors in Contra Costa County, California. The senior citizen was home when the thief broke the glass door to get in during Memorial Day weekend just before 6:30 a.m. local time. Surveillance video showed the suspect, wearing a blue jacket, black sweatpants and gray shirt around his face, entering the home. The neighbors heard the glass break and came out to inspect when the thief burst out and ran down the street. After checking on the victim they called police and a bunch of neighbors gathered at the noise and flashing lights. A quick search of the area by police yielded no suspects, but a young man who lived right there volunteered his drone to search the neighborhood. You can see video of the scene below.
Connie Van Putten of the Hercules Police Department explained: Police arrived on the scene minutes later, setting up a perimeter around the home, but weren’t able to find the thief. “The neighbor boy using his drone saw a person hiding in the vicinity of the victim’s residence.” As he watched the perp called Uber for a lift and our hero was able to identify the car and relay the information to police. As the suspect kept moving, the drone’s pilot kept tracking, leading officers right to him. “Officers located a Gray Honda Accord with Uber logos in the window at the corner of Meadowlark and Tanager Way,” police said in the post. “A high-risk stop was conducted and a subject matching the exact description of the suspect in the surveillance video exited the rear passenger seat of the Honda. ”The officers found more than $30,000 of the victim’s property on the floorboard of the vehicle where the suspect had been, according to police, and the teenager was arrested.”
Now, the case is in the hands of the district attorney. Hercules police said it’s the perfect example of community policing, while staying safe. “He saw something was suspicious and he acted on it by calling the police, doing the proper thing. Not trying to make an apprehension himself, but calling the police.”

A theif who had been hiding inside a Home Depot store until it closed suddenly appeared and at gunpoint hustled all the employees into an office and locked the door. He then opened the exit door and walked outside to give his partner the “all clear” sign. Of course he didn’t notice the sign that said all doors lock automatically on the outside of the back door. Try as he might, he could not get back into the store.
