Hockey coach Jeff Luddington said, “We build a backyard hockey rink every year, but with this competition we definitely want to enhance what we usually do so we can have a chance to have Toronto Maple Leafs legends Wendel and Dougie skate in our backyard.” The winner of the city’s new backyard outdoor rink contest will be chosen Feb. 3. “I am trying to make lemonade out of the lemon that is this lockdown,” Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said Friday night upon tweeting out word of the contest. Brown is hoping when this is done, Brampton will be known as the city with the most outdoor rinks. “My goal is to get 1,000 backyard rinks built in Brampton,” he said. “Backyard rinks are great for health, both physical and mental. Kids need activity and fresh air.” So do the parents. “Build a backyard ice rink and submit a photo for a chance to win awesome prizes — like a one-hour skate with Killer and Captain Crunch,” Brown’s tweet said. Brown said real estate company ReMax has kicked in some Maple Leafs game tickets and Wayne Gretzky is going to donate a signed Team Canada jersey as well as books and memorabilia. Brampton Fire and Emergency Services are available to help a limited number of residents in need flood their rinks. It’s such a great idea that will no doubt inject some happiness into life at a time when all of the focus is on vaccines. The only booster being talked about here is the morale-boosting effect of fun and community spirit.
The first jockstrap in ice hockey was introduced in 1874. The helmet was first obligatory in 1974. So it took precisely 100 years before men realized that the brain eventually could be useful too.
Ice hockey is basically just guys wearing knife shoes fighting each other with long sticks
for the last Oreo.
My local hockey rink just reported their Zamboni driver has gone missing…
They hope he resurfaces soon.
My friends and I visited Canada for the first time. We went into a rowdy bar in Toronto.
While we were there a fight started and a hockey game broke out.
