Beards of a feather…

Facial hair enthusiasts claimed to have set a new world record for longest beard chain during an event in Wyoming on Friday in Casper Wyoming. Participants gathered at Gaslight Social, a bar in Casper, where they stood side by side and clipped their beards together to create a hairy chain that was measured at 150 feet long, according to the newspaper. That’s more than double the Guinness World Record of 62 feet, 6 inches, set in Germany in 2007. To participate, people needed to sport a beard at least 8 inches long, according to the Star-Tribune. The event occurred on the sidelines of the Regional Beard and Moustache Championships, which took place at the city’s Ford Wyoming Center.

That was pretty good, but you know all those folks that moved from the Northeast to Florida… well: Attendees at the National Beard and Mustache Championships in Florida broke three Guinness World Records for the longest chains of beards, mustaches and partial beards. The annual event, which is held in a different location each year by Beard Team USA, saw participants take on the three record titles in this year’s host city: Daytona Beach. The facial hair fanatics first attempted the record for the longest beard chain, which was previously set at 150 feet during the previous year’s National Beard and Mustache Championships. The beard-sporting participants stood side-by-side, and their facial hair was clipped together into an 86-person chain measuring 195 feet and 3 inches long. There goes Florida, being number 1 again.

…flock to Florida

While those fellows were enjoying their hairy camaraderie a group of Florida thieves managed to steal $1.6 million worth of alcohol from a distributor in Florida. At a Republic National Distributing Company warehouse in Tampa, from 4:10 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., the thieves loaded 4,277 cases of liquor onto tractor-trailers. While authorities were able to identify the trucks as they left the facility using surveillance camera footage from around the area. Investigators with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office filed a warrant for an Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max, writing that it “contains specific information, technical data, and evidence” about the massive theft. The warrant also noted that the thieves removed security cameras from the warehouse.

According to investigators, the stolen liquor was moved to South Florida, but detectives managed to track the shipment to a rental storage facility in Hialeah. After finding the stolen liquor, detectives managed to recover the shipment, valued at over $1.5 million, and give it back to the owner, the sheriff’s office said. “I commend our dedicated detectives for their tireless efforts in swiftly apprehending the individual responsible for this audacious million-dollar liquor theft,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said.  None of the booze made it to the beard contest but there is always next year.

Bearded Beauties

Who can shave 25 times a day and still have a beard?
A barber.

A Florida woman called 911 because she was locked inside her car.  The unidentified woman was parked at a Walgreen’s store in Kissimmee. “My car will not start. I’m locked inside my car,” the unidentified woman said. “Nothing electrical works. And it’s getting very hot in here, and I’m not feeling well.” The dispatcher then suggested pulling up the lock. The woman tried it and was successfully able to open the door.

A giant python was discovered in Florida. Spooky news for a state that derives half its income from a giant mouse.

Everyone criticizes Apple Maps, but I enjoyed using it for my road trip from New York to Florida. There’s a lot to see in Chicago.
