Friends stay connected

Seth Trobec and Cody Mjolsness were out ice fishing together on Canisteo Pit Lake, north of Coleraine, MN in their collapsible ice shanty which is built on sled runners to make it easier to get out on the ice and move around. They had towed the shanty with their gear inside out on the ice with a snowmobile. Seth Trobec was filming the inaugural video for his “Get In The Outdoors” page with a GoPro camera mounted inside the canvas shanty over the holes they had made in the ice. Once they had the interior mostly set up Cody left to take the snowmobile back to shore to pick another buddy’s shanty. Cody forgot that the snowmobile was still hooked up to their shanty and he roared away with it still connected. As the video below shows, he dragged the shanty, the equipment and Seth across the ice with the bottom of the shanty open. “My screaming was a failed attempt to get his attention.” Cody bailed out through the floor and tried to retrieve his fishing gear that was scattered on the ice or down the holes. As Cody starts speeding away, Trobec dives into the gap to escape, taking a tumble on the ice. Fortunately, there was no major damage done to Seth or the shanty and most amazingly to the relationship between the two guys. Three videos that Seth has posted since then are a little more relaxing, showing lake trout being caught and the northern lights.

Keep the worms warm

Dad: I tried ice fishing once. Didn’t really like it.
Me: Why not? Too cold?
Dad: No. It took me 4 hours to make a hole big enough for the boat.

I’m chatting with my girlfriend’s dad about his recent ice fishing trip when he pulls out
his phone and shows me a picture of his ice fishing spot.
It is just a picture of the lake-ice with a black X spray painted onto it.
I look at him, confused at first but then I realized he was kidding with me.
I tell him that he is going to have a hard time finding it next year.
He responds, “I know the ice is going to melt, that’s why I took a picture.”

Guess what we do when my ice house falls apart.
Igloo it back together!

Bert: “Boy, this ice fishing is a drag, I am freezing, I haven’t caught a thing all day, and
those guys over there are falling in one fish after another.”
Ernie: “Oh sure, it’s not hard to catch fish if you cheat. “Look, they put a hole in the ice.”
