Retirement after 1229 years
Christo Tofalli manages the oldest pub in Britain which is threatened with closing because of financial difficulties. Ye Olde Fighting Cocks pub in St. Albans, England, announced that it was closing after 1,229 years. The pub’s website states the business first started pouring drinks in the year 793. Christo said, “Along with my team, I have tried everything to keep the pub going. However, the past two years have been unprecedented for the hospitality industry, and have defeated all of us who have been trying our hardest to ensure this multi-award-winning pub could continue trading into the future,” According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Ye Olde Fighting Cocks holds the honor for the United Kingdom of longest running pub. The property itself is owned by Mitchells and Butlers, one of the U.K.’s largest pub groups which told the BBC that it planned to keep the pub running with a new team at some point in the future. Still, even if Ye Olde Fighting Cocks sees its 1,230th birthday, which seems likely, the simple fact that such a world-famous pub couldn’t stay open on name alone would seem to indicate just how difficult owning a pub has been over the past couple of years.
Closing time
Two drunks stood at the bar near closing time. “I’ve got an idea,” said one, “let’s have one
more drink and then go and find us some girls.”
“Not me,” replied the other one, “I’ve got more than I can handle at home.”
“Great,” replied the idea man, “then let’s have one more and then go to your house!
At closing time Clancy was getting himself together for the walk home. He looked around and asked, “Has anyone seen me vest?”
“Sure, Clancy you are wearing it, right now.”
“Right and I am and it is a good thing you found it or I’d have gone home without it.”
Just found out that the local hospital is closing their wing for people with serious infections.
Turns out they were under staphed…
