Snow plowing for girls
Apparently woke snowplowing is a thing — at least in Boston. Mayor Michelle Wu’s new chief of staff, Tiffany Chu, went on the record during a teleconference to talk about the inequalities of snow removal. “It’s about snow-clearing and if the concept of snow-clearing can be sexist, and the answer is, Yes, wholeheartedly!” she said during last year’s National Shared Mobility Conference, Chu believes that bicycle lanes should get plowed first, before any roads, citing a decade-old study out of Sweden. “In 2012, a number of cities in Sweden adopted a gender-equal plowing strategy where pedestrian cycle lanes were cleared [first], especially near schools and day-care centers and then later on major streets,” said Chu during the online event.
Radio host and Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr wrote in response: “So are you saying women… don’t go to work? That only men commute?” He also pointed out the benefits of having major thoroughfares being plowed first, particularly: “people who call 911, whose houses are on fire, who need an ambulance,” adding that it might not be so easy for a fire truck to maneuver down a bike lane. Perhaps Ms. Chu has not realized that nearly everybody drives to get around the city even driving their children to school. Bicycling, and buggy pushing are very limited in December January and February. Equity, though?
Plowing through winter jokes
The Boston snowstorm so was bad the Canadians reported on it.
They called it Tuesday.
Weather Warning:
Southerners are urged not to travel unless absolutely necessary.
Northerners: You will need your big coat.
A blonde driving a car became lost in a snowstorm. She didn’t panic however, because she remembered what her dad had once told her. “If you ever get stuck in a snowstorm, just wait for a snowplow to come by and follow it.” Sure enough, pretty soon a snow plow came by, and she started to follow it. She followed the plow for about forty-five minutes. Finally, the driver of the truck got out and asked her what she was doing. She explained that her dad had told her if she ever got stuck in a snow storm, to follow a plow. The driver nodded and said, “Well, OK, I’m done with the Wal-Mart parking lot, do you want to follow me over to Best Buy now?”
These reports of a major snowstorm hitting the Northeast don’t concern me.
It’s all just flake news.
