Wanna Buy Colonel Sanders Restaurant?

Claudia Sanders Dinner House, a Shelbyville, KY landmark restaurant Colonel Harland Sanders created for his beloved wife, is going up for sale, along with the trademark and the Claudia Sanders name. The sale not only includes the restaurant and property, which additionally houses the former primary residence of the Sanders for more than 25 years, but also memorabilia from the Sanders family. After their years in Corbin, KY the Colonel and Claudia moved to this property and opened Claudia Sanders Dinner House, which was also the first KFC headquarters. Claudia Sanders Dinner House has been a staple of the Shelbyville community since its grand opening in 1959, with visitors traveling from all over the world to visit. It is the only non-KFC restaurant in the world you can get the original recipe KFC chicken.

Harland Sanders was born in 1890, when he was six years old, his father passed away leaving Sanders to cook and care for his siblings. In seventh grade, he dropped out of school and left home. At 16, he lied about his age to enlist in the United States army. After being honorably discharged, he got hired by the railway as a laborer. Sanders was forced to move back in with his mom and get a job selling life insurance. It wasn’t until age 40 that he began selling chicken dishes in a service station. As he began to advertise his food, an argument with a competitor resulted in a deadly shootout. Four years later, he bought a motel which burned to the ground along with his restaurant. After WW2 the Colonel opened a restaurant along US 42 which was the main road from the north to Florida. That made a for a great business, until the interstate highway system bypassed his little town and his restaurant was going bankrupt again. When the colonel got his first Social Security check, he rebelled and announced he was not going to go out of life on welfare and decided to sell the thing he knew best – cooking chicken. So he put on his white suit and took an electric deep fryer in the trunk of his Cadillac and started visiting all the restaurants in Kentucky offering to sell them his herbs and spices and teach them how to cook chicken. He would literally cook a test batch at his sales call to prove that his recipe was better than theirs and try to convince them they would make more money doing it his way. The colonel got 1009 “No’s” before someone bought his idea and his spices. Claudia Sanders had been a waitress in the old restaurant and after they married she packaged the herbs and spices and ran the factory while Harlan barnstormed the countryside converting people to “Kentucky Fried Chicken.” In 2018 there were 18,000 KFC locations in 118 countries.

What’s cookin’?

My wife has been watching a lot of those competitive cooking shows and it is really inspiring her…
She now critiques everything I cook for her.

I went into KFC with an egg
I said, “Don’t worry I’ll wait”

Scientists analyzed sweat samples of 100 regular KFC visitors
And found 11 secrete herbs and spices.

“Waiter! This food is terrible.  I cannot eat it. You had better get the manager.”
The waiter replied, “It won’t do any good, the manager won’t eat it either.”
