Nutbush dancing in the Desert

4084 Australians kicked up the red dust of outback Queensland as they set a new world record for the Largest Nutbush City Limits Dance. The fans were attending the Birdsville Big Red Bash spread out in formation across the Simpson Desert plains – many wearing wigs and tutus – to dance and raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service on Thursday. The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia is an air medical service.  It is a non-profit organization that provides emergency and primary health care services for those living in rural, remote and regional areas of Australia who cannot access a hospital or general practice due to the vast distances of the Outback. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organizations in the world.

Outback Music Festival Group festival owner Greg Donovan spoke to 7NEWS.com.au from the desert plains, accidently swallowing a fly while sharing the origins of the record-breaking tradition. The Nutbush is an iconic dance that endures in Australia and looks like a cross between line dancing and aerobics. “We were looking for something we could do to, One: help raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, but Two: engage a lot of people in the activity and have fun with something that was easy,” Donovan said. “Tina Turner’s ‘Nutbush City limits’ is quite an iconic song, and everybody loves doing the Nutbush dance. I thought, let’s give it a go!” They also broke the world record for Largest Nutbush City Limits Dance, stealing the title from … themselves. The dusty dancing tradition has become a staple event as part of the Birdsville Big Red Bash music festival, which this year drew a crowd of about 11,000 people to a town with regular population of about 150. Festivalgoers swinging past the town’s local bakery have been recorded stocking up on 1,500 curried camel pies daily.

Watch me dance laughs

A guy takes his wife out for the night and they end up at a disco where there’s a guy on the dance floor giving it large – break dancing, moonwalking, back flips, every dance move going. The wife turns to her husband and says…
“See that guy on the dance floor? 25 years ago he proposed to me and I turned him down.”
The husband replies, “It looks like he’s still celebrating.”

I got so drunk last night I walked across the dance floor to get another drink and won the dance contest.

I am like Colgate toothpaste when I dance

I used to be a dancer, but the music kept throwing me off.
