Story of 3 bears

Sometime over Monday night into Tuesday morning, a bear tore open an outdoor stainless-steel refrigerator owned by the Coffee Cowboy and ravaged through its contents. The refrigerator was strapped shut, but the bear managed to bend open one of its doors from the top and get in. The animal drank three gallons of skim milk and chewed on two boxes of chocolate. This time of year bears are trying to consume as many calories as possible to get ready for their winter hibernation, and bear activity in town tends to increase.  The coffee cowboy is a trailer based coffee and sandwich shop that caters to Telluride main street visitors as well as going up the mountain in ski season. This isn’t the first time a bear has broken into the Cowboy’s outdoor refrigerator. Last summer a bear broke into it and drank 12 gallons of milk and ate five cases of muffins. Coffee Cowboy owner Joshua Johnson said after last year’s incident he started to strap the refrigerator shut and put chairs in front of it, which seemed to be working until now. “I’m pretty sure it’s the same bear, [from last year],” Johnson said. “Last year was the first time in our business that we’ve had to deal with it. But yeah, he is kind of fearless.” Last summer, a bear tore open a window of a vehicle on East Pandora Street after smelling dog food that was in the back seat.

Chris O’dubhraic must be a sound sleeper. When he got up in the morning his kitchen was trashed and even the refrigerator door was torn off. Chris then thought he would call police after he checked the security system to see who had broken into his house. Folks estimate his intruder weighed about 325 pounds and roamed around the house for 4.5 hours. From the security video the bear wandered around the various ground floor rooms of the house and figured out how to open his refrigerator. The bear went through many of the rooms and even took a break on the deck for a while. Chris said that the local Forest Services had told him the bear would be back for more food since he was too big to climb trees and that there was evidence the animal had been living under the family’s deck.

Our third hungry bear caused some tense moments for a Northern California family after getting trapped inside their house — and making itself right at home. The bear entered the Truckee, California, home through an open garage door, which then shut behind the furry intruder. A “Nest” surveillance camera captured the bear’s stroll through the kitchen and living room. Two boys were in the house watching TV when the bear barged in.  They saw the bear and used an Apple Watch to call 911. Things turned frightening when the teen and a friend retreated to a bedroom and locked the door, then had to hold a door closed as the bear tried to pry its way in. “There are scratch marks on the door, and the bear bumped up against it,” one of the teens inside the house told ABC News affiliate KXTV. “That was the scariest moment of our life.” The bear consumed two pints of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and “took our taco meat from the fridge and ate it on the couch.” A deputy soon arrived and allowed the bear to escape by opening a door. No one was injured, though the family said the bear left a “big present” on the carpet that four local carpet cleaning services declined to deal with. Apparently, Yogi Bear and Boo Boo are really real.

Bearly Funny Food

Is your refrigerator running?
Today, I may vote for it.

It’s not your dryer that’s shrinking your clothes…
It’s your refrigerator.

When I walked by my refrigerator, I heard a little voice singing “Stayin’ Alive.”
Turned out it was just the chives talkin’.

Authorities in Lake Tahoe are on the lookout for three bears that have collectively broken into more than 30 homes. Current leads suggest that the bears’ location to be somewhere in the Goldilocks section.
