Everything is bigger in Texas

You have heard it a hundred times, especially if you have any friends or relatives that live in the Lone Star state. In the heart of Houston, Texas, a monumental feat of engineering and creativity has taken shape – the world’s largest hex nut. Crafted by the skilled hands at JK Welding.    Measuring an impressive 16 feet in height and 19 feet in width, the world’s largest hex nut dwarfs its predecessors, toppling the previous record held by a Slovenian counterpart. The big nut took over six weeks and more than 450 man-hours of labor, the team meticulously crafted every detail, ensuring not just size but structural integrity and functionality. The hex nut, weighing a staggering 8,500 pounds, is not merely ornamental; it’s designed to be functional if a bolt of matching size ever comes into play.

But wait, There is more!

Tallest living dog

Zeus the Great Dane of Bedford Texas At 3 feet, 5.18 inches tall, was named the tallest living dog last year. Zeus, who lives with his owner, Brittany Davis, spends his days taking walks, napping and roaming the Dallas Farmers Market, where he is a bit of a celebrity. “The comment that we hear most often is ‘Wow, that’s a horse!,’ ‘Can I ride him?’ or ‘Does he have a saddle?’” Davis told Guinness World Records. “The answer to all those questions is ‘no.’”

Largest belt buckle

This one might not come as a surprise. To celebrate its 50th anniversary this year, Montana Silversmiths, a designer of handcrafted jewelry and buckles, created a massive belt buckle, at 10 feet, 6 inches by 14 feet, 6.4 inches. The buckle weighed in a little over 1000 pounds. To accommodate the buckle’s height, the company had to reroute the airducts at the Dallas Market Center. Now they are looking for a really big guy.

A few bikers

Harley Motorcycle enthusiast Adam Sandoval of Paris, Texas heard that a group in Greece held an event that set the record the record for longest Harley-Davidson parade. Adam used social media to spread the word about the big ride in Paris, recruiting 3,497 riders from 48 U.S. states and Canada to the Lone Star State. The ride raised more than $54,000 for Motorcycle Missions, a nonprofit organization that teaches veterans and first responders how to build motorcycles.

Big Texas laughs

A Texan died and went to the pearly gates. After a few days in heaven his bragging was getting on everyone’s nerves. No matter where he went in paradise he always said Texas had something better. Finally, Saint Peter took him to the edge of heaven and pointed straight down into the fiery depths of hell and asked, “Do you have something like that in Texas?” “No sir,” the oilman replied, “but we have some guys down in Houston who can put it out.”

Name calling and profanity are not tolerated at our Texas junior high school so I was concerned when a student complained that another student had called him the “E” word? I couldn’t even think of one.  I asked, “What E word did he call you?” He lowered his face voice and eyes and muttered, “Idiot.”

Then there was the Texan who was seeing a psychiatrist. His trouble was that he kept forgetting the Alamo.

Scientists have discovered that Antarctica and Texas were once connected.
They say their first clue was when they were shot at by penguins.
