I thought I caught a big one
Robert Riley was out fishing with a buddy in his boat on a placid ocean about 9:30 in the morning. They hit a school of bunker fish and some other smaller fish and Bob had a nice one on his line. Then about 6 feet in front of the boat a humpback whale jumped out of the water. Bob froze and yelled, “He is going to land on the boat”. The impact from the whale turned the boat over and threw both men into the sea. They had life jackets and could swim. They were able to hang on to the boat as the waves pushed them into the shore. Many bathers on the shore saw the whale breach and the impact and they helped gather up the gear that had been thrown out of the boat. Riley, who usually fishes in the bay, said “It’s a memory I’ll never get rid of, but I got to say I don’t think I’ll ever be in the ocean again.”
