The Dukes of Valdosta

This wild scene looks like a 1980’s sitcom straight out of an action movie – but it was recorded live – by a police camera. The flying car was not an Orange Dodge Charger like your heroes in Hazard, KY, but a woman on the freeway that may not have been trying to get on TV. There was an accident on the Georgia Highway 38 which had many police cars and a flatbed tow truck scattered across the highway on both sides of the gore. The flatbed tow truck had lowered the bed of the truck to load the original disabled car from the original accident the crews had responded to. A 21-year-old woman from Tallahassee, Fla., was driving the Nissan Altima, and for some reason decided to go through the accident scene at full highway speed. She may have been incapacitated or just speeding, but instead of swerving through stoppage…she ended up running up the bed of the tow truck, breaking off the steel protective frame of the tow truck and then launched herself over the truck cab.

Her sedan flew high into the air, soaring some 120 feet before crashing back down onto the roadway. The scary video available below is from the body camera of a Lowndes County sheriff’s deputy who was assisting with the initial crash on the westbound side of Georgia Highway 38. The flying car bounced on its side slid into another stopped vehicle and then ended right side up on its wheels facing the wrong way. While landing, the vehicle hit another car that was traveling along the highway at the same time, causing it to be thrown a further 23 feet after impact. An emergency worker who had been walking in front of the tow truck in the grassy median narrowly escaped what could have been a serious injury, as the initial collision sent a massive hunk of debris flying past him.  The woman Altima driver was taken to South Georgia Medical Center with what the incident report describes as suspected serious injuries. The cause of the initial accident that drew a police response to the area was not immediately clear. Do not try this at home.

Accidental  jokes

My friend told me that 85% of all car accidents happen within 5 miles of home.
So I moved.

What’s the first thing that goes through your head, when you find yourself in a car accident without a seat belt?
The windshield.

Why does the Tesla Model Z have more accidents on record than any other car?
It’s really hard to drive safely, while patting yourself on the back.

My driving instructor told me to pull over somewhere safe. After 10 minutes he asked me why I hadn’t pulled over. I said we are still in Chicago.
