Man bites dog… again

Officers were initially called to an elderly female victim’s home Wednesday afternoon on a report of a burglary, the police department said in an online post. The department then received a report from an Amazon employee, who said the man had threatened to kill him and steal his delivery truck. Police said the suspect entered the home and the elderly occupant safely exited and subsequently called police. Officers responded and saw a man running around inside the victim’s house. They attempted to contact the suspect several times and get him to leave the dwelling, officials said, to no avail. After also deploying de-escalation techniques and tools, the officers entered the residence. K-9 Cort also entered and came into contact with the suspect, who allegedly bit the dog in the face and knifed him on his left side. The suspect was believed to be under the influence of drugs. Cort was treated at the University of California, Davis Veterinary Hospital and is recovering at home with his handler, Michael Peña.

This is not the first time  K-9 Cort was injured while on duty. In January 2019, he was stabbed multiple times while cornering a suspect in an arson/attempted murder case in Vacaville. In February 2020, the pup located the suspect in a brutal attack in Cordelia, CA and suffered a serious cut to a paw. Adam Perez, who reportedly severely beat a woman in a home the night before, was still there the next day when family arrived to pick up belongings. After a standoff that lasted nearly six hours, Cort was deployed and found the suspect hiding in a commercial cooler in the garage. Let’s hear it for K-9 Cort, a cop’s best friend.

Good boy, Sic ‘em

It was the end of the day when I parked my police car in front of the station. As I gathered my equipment, my K-9 partner, Jake, was barking and I saw a little boy staring in at me. “Is that a dog you got back there?” he asked. “It sure is,” I replied. Puzzled, the boy looked at me and then toward the back of the van. Finally he said, “What did he do?”

I saw an advert offering a trained police dog for $25 in the local paper. I saw a bargain and bought it. When the current owner brought it around a mangy mutt jumped out their car.
I said, “There’s no way that’s a Police dog.”
The owner replied, “Don’t let looks deceive you, he worked undercover.”

In America, dogs are K9.
In mainland China, dogs are E10.

Hey, check out my new dog!
“He used to be police dog down in Florida.”
“Oh, what breed is he?”
“He’s a meth lab.”
