Snow for Easter

In the Midwest we get jealous of Florida this time of year. While we are saturated and longing for sunshine, they have sun every day. We are insulted by Snow after Easter, but we are nowhere near as tough as those folks, many Norwegians and Swedes, that make North Dakota work.  Two blockbuster April snowstorms struck North Dakota in just a few days’ time. The late-season snow has piled up so high that it is setting records. Minot, North Dakota is home to approximately 48,000 people. This past week, folks in Minot experienced weather that may have felt more typical of January than mid-April. An astonishing 4 feet of snow fell there — all inside the space of a week.

The first of two snowstorms struck on April 12 and continued for almost 48 hours, dumping a whopping 36 inches of snow on Minot. The gusty winds made it feel even more wintry. Minot International Airport clocked in with wind gusts of 63 mph, which brought visibility down to a quarter of a mile. On Easter, yet another storm targeted the region, this time bringing another foot of snow to Minot. the blizzard conditions had kept Sara Hollenbeck busy on her ranch, working to keep the wind and snow from burying her sheep. “Our sheep are built for snow, but if they get buried, nothing can survive unless we physically shovel them out, which, thank God, we didn’t have to do,” Hollenbeck told AccuWeather. To add to the matter, snowdrifts were chest-high in places. Persisting winds Wednesday prevented her from clearing the drifts, meaning the only way she and others on the ranch could get around was by using a tractor. “Once the wind stops blowing, we will start the process of digging out, but that’s not looking like it will happen until Friday”

North Dakota Norwegian Funnies:

One day a Norwegian and a Swede were fishing on opposite sides of the same river, but the Norwegian guy was catching all of the fish. Eventually, the Swede asks the Norwegian, “How do you get to the other side?”
The Norwegian guy responds, “I’ll turn on my flashlight and you can walk across the beam.”
The Swede says, “Nice try… Just because I’m a Swede doesn’t mean that I’ll fall for that. I’ll get halfway across and you’ll turn it off!”

North Dakota is so flat you can watch your dog runaway for three weeks.

I had a nightmare last night that I was stuck inside a snow globe.
When I woke up, I was really shaken up.

My dad was from North Dakota. He married an Arab woman…
My name? Yasser Youbetcha.
