Brother, can you spare a dime?

If you were in the Walmart parking lot around North Philadelphia you could spare as many dimes as anyone would want to carry. In fact, they had a whole truck load of dimes and that were widely scattered around the parking lot. It was not a Walmart promotion, was the overspray from some thieves that got tired out carrying the contraband. The story is: a tractor trailer load of dimes had been picked at the Philadelphia mint to be taken to Florida. The driver figured says it was late in the day, he would park the truck in the Walmart lot and walk to his house and get some sleep and then hit the road early in the morning. Great plan but either somebody knew what was in the truck or allegedly a group of thieves just got lucky and opened the trailer to find about $750,000 in dimes sparkling during the night.

Reports seem to indicate the original thieves could not deal with all the containers of dimes and they called some friends to help them carry the loot. Based on post crime investigation the thieves got about $110,000 in dimes from the truck. They made a real mess in the process and scattered dimes in a wide area around the back of the open trailer. Based on their technique these were amateurs, because they made such a widespread mess, but also they got tired carrying about 5000 pounds of coins and quit. Police were called at 6am on Thursday, but by the time they arrived, the lot was empty and thousands of coins were scattered across the parking lot.  You can see the debris they scattered in the video below.

About a million dimes were stolen and thousands sprawled across the parking lot by the time driver returned. It took a crew hours to clean up the mess left by the thieves as they scrambled to get away. It is ‘common practice’ for drivers to pick up loads and park their trucks overnight to get on the road in the morning.  Cargo thefts in the area are very common, according to Captain John Ryan from Philadelphia Police Department. ‘That’s a lot of labor too, moving that amount of weight,’ Captain Ryan added. Jasmine Waters was awakened by the investigation:  ‘I heard the helicopters, so I looked out of the window and saw everything blocked off and I was like what is possibly going on?’ ‘The carrier responsible for the shipment is a commercial contractor and is personally insured against incidents of loss or theft.

Be on the lookout for guys with bulging pockets!

A dime’s worth of spare change

“If I had a quarter every time a hobo asked me for spare change, I’d still say No.”

I found $27 in loose change in my girlfriend’s PT Cruiser, but she was visibly upset.
She said I cut the resale value in half.

You have a dime in one hand and a nickel in the other. What are you?
Broke.

Due to Biden inflation
The phrase “a dime a dozen” has gone up to “$3 dollars a dozen.”

A homeless guy walks up to a table at an outdoor cafe where a woman is having lunch. “Pardon me, ma’am, for disturbing you, but I was wondering if you could help me out. I’ve been having a pretty rough time lately. I understand if you don’t want to give cash, but could you at least spare me some of the bread off your table? I haven’t eaten in two days.”
She says, “God, I wish I had your willpower.”
