Has the whole world gone Covid crazy? A South Korean woman wanted to sanitize her money, so she put about $20,000 worth in her washing machine and was left with a pile of bleached paper. Under bank rules on the exchange of damaged, mutilated and contaminated banknotes, the person was provided with the new currency totaling about $19,320. Another person, surnamed Kim, put bills in a microwave over similar coronavirus concerns earlier this year. The bank exchanged Kim’s damaged money with the new currency worth $4,370. She said she was losing at least 35% of the original money. In March, the Bank of Korea said it was quarantining bank notes for two weeks to remove any traces of the coronavirus.
