Beware chubby squirrels
You may have noticed that the neighborhood squirrels are moving a little slower and looking a little more robust this year. Squirrel experts explain that these tree rodents have had a very good fall and the warmer weather has allowed squirrels all over the north to pudge up with more fruit and nuts available and at least in one case too many people feeding them. Squirrels don’t hibernate, instead they bury nuts in the ground and tunnel through the snow to retrieve them when food is scarce. Their weight gain helps insulate them from the cold, and burn off the excess fat when they don’t have enough to eat. Normally they will burn all that extra fat off once the temperatures drop. “If it’s really, really cold, squirrels won’t do much. They just snooze out for three or four days. “By spring, they won’t be waddling anymore.” When people get too generous the squirrels get lazy and even destructive. Friends of Mears Park in St. Paul MN, say the squirrel population has grown tremendously because to many people are feeding them thinking they are doing them a favor. Not only does this make for fat squirrels, but it brings more squirrels to the park which has become a problem. Mears Park has been one of the city’s tree lighting sites for Christmas. For decades the city has lit up the park for walkers, cars passing by and the tenants of the high-rise buildings in the area. This year given up the battle to keep the squirrels from eating the insulation off the Christmas light wires. Each night the rodents eat the wires and the display has just become too expensive to maintain. It may be nice to see the little critters running around in the park, but feeding them is pushing nature out of its natural balance and the Christmas darkness shows it.
Your Christmas spirit is showing:
What do you call a blimp wrapped in Christmas lights?
LED Zeppelin
Who broke all the Christmas decorations?
Santa Klutz.
Why was all of the mistletoe growing up one tree?
It was a poplar tree.
After the office party, I started carrying mistletoe in my pocket…
So everyone can kiss my butt.
