Moo out on a limb
When Hurricane Ida touched down in Louisiana it marked the 5th strongest weather event to strike the US, delivering winds of over 150 miles per hour and a storm surge of several feet. The hurricane turned the lives of thousands upside-down overnight. One of the most unusual circumstances to come out of the chaos was found days after the worst of the winds cleared in St. Bernard Parish. Fire and rescue services were called to the marshy, forested, and flooded scene to rescue a cow stuck in a tree. Two workers used a chainsaw to cut away the branches surrounding the trapped animal. The rescuers had to trudge through waist high flood water and use chainsaws to remove the leaves and branches that had trapped the unlucky cow. The whole operation took around 20 minutes and they even managed to get the animal to higher ground. Fortunately, the flooded forest floor made for a fairly soft landing when the cow flopped out. Also luckily, the cow seemed uninjured and unbothered by the strange circumstances. After all, she had plenty of leaves to chew on while she waited for rescue! When they rescued her, the crew realized that the cow’s udder was full, so they immediately prioritized finding her calf and reuniting them. A happy story for man and beasts.
