Don’t mess with mother nature

Jack Foraker said he was on his way home to Estero, FL, when he drove into the storm. Foraker’s dashboard camera was recording when a bolt of lightning struck his vehicle. “Just sounded like a shotgun blast to the back of my truck. It was pretty scary,” he said. “My windshield wiper stopped, lost my power brakes, lost my power steering.” Jack was not injured, was able to pull over to the side of the road. The truck though had only 4,000 miles on it and was severely damaged. Jack said the truck was in the shop for 40 days while mechanics tried to revive it, but he is now resigned to simply buying a replacement vehicle. The incident should serve as a warning to others of the danger posed by lightning… A lightning strike in Florida launched a chunk of highway pavement through a truck windshield and injured two people inside the vehicle on Monday morning on I-10. … Dashcam video captured another strike when a family traveling north of Waverly, Kansas in their Grand Cherokee was struck by a terrifying series of lightning bolts which fried the vehicle’s electronics, but left its passengers unharmed. The jeep appears to be struck four separate times in quick succession. Shortly after the last strike, the vehicle slows to a halt, its brake lights quickly fading out. You can imagine what millions of volts just did to its electrical system… A study published last month found that Oklahoma had narrowly overtaken Florida as the lightning capital of the U.S., news outlets reported. But Florida ranked No. 1 in cloud-to-ground strikes.
